The Media Bean Company is not your average coffee shop. Media Bean Company is a collaboration of DiFabio’s 9th Street Catering founder Frank Agovino and Jim Wurster Co-founder of New Avenue Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit public charity whose mission is to help create more meaningful lives for people with disabilities. One key part of their mission is to help find gainful employment and provide training for adults with disabilities.
“When Jim approached us about the idea I felt in my heart right away that it was something I was going to be involved with,” Agovino said. What is the idea exactly?
COFFEE TO AWAKEN YOUR TASTE BUDS
The concept is straightforward. The Media Bean Company offers on premise fresh roasted, fair trade coffee from South America and Africa which creates an amazing coffee product. The coffee beans, however, will be roasted by adults with disabilities. Our coffee will not only be available by the cup at The Bean but will also be packaged for retail sale in the shop as well as at farmers markets throughout the region. A portion of all proceeds of coffee sales at Media Bean Company will go back to New Avenue Foundation.
“Our adults will be trained how to roast and package the coffee and (they) will always be supervised,” said Mr. Wurster. “Disabled people are truly a gift and take pride in what they do. This will be an awesome product because the employees will care 100%,” he concluded.
In addition to a full line of fresh roasted coffee products Media Bean Company will offer fresh sandwiches, salads, healthier smoothies and baked goods made on premise in an express environment. The newly renovated shop offers a comfortable setting to enjoy your beverage and meal as well as access free Wi-Fi.
“Jerry, I just stopped by the Coffee Bean and brought back one of each pretzels. My husband is Bavarian. We just died and went to Heaven with the everything pretzel!”
Thanks so much.
Great addition to the neighborhood! Coffee was great and I loved The Charlie (tuna on spelt) sandwich. Congrats on opening and good luck!!!Lisa Oster
I stopped here today with my mom. The service was so friendly and the coffee, cappuccino and muffin were delicious. Such a warm atmosphere to sit and chat! We’ll be back.Denise Rhoads
Stopped by today for a dine-in lunch with sis! Loved the “Frankie” (smoked chicken salad sandwich on house-made sourdough) as recommended by the staff. Also had a hot-outta-the-oven strawberry and cream scone that was SUPER yummy. Very friendly service — didn’t get his name behind the counter, but he made our lunch experience enjoyable! Wish the parking lot was bigger (walking here from home isn’t an option for me)!Linda Pang
Had the Tommie today on the homemade sourdough and it was awesome!! Couldn’t resist the pretzels either!Kate Smith
I finally got a chance to stop in. The place is beautiful and everything looked so delicious I couldn’t decide what to get. The salesperson was so friendly and took the time to explain every item on the counter. I didn’t have time to stay for a meal so I just took a few items home. The pizza was so delicious, that my family was fighting over it. I could have eaten the entire loaf of sourdough bread, myself. Also, the Bavarian pretzels rolls were so delicious that I ate mine just plain. No matter where you live, this place is worth the trip. I will definitely be back!Roe Viso
We finally stopped at the new Media Bean Company on Providence, near Rose Tree Park. If you’re in the area, please support this business!! We highly recommend the pastries and sandwiches, all handmade on premises. The bread is fresh and amazingly soft!
I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken salad sandwich – unique and refreshing on a hot day. Coffee was good too!! Looking forward to many more visits!
I stopped in for an iced coffee and my eye caught the brussles & brisket on the menu so I had to try it. Super good! I made a joke how it would go great with a cold beer and before I knew it the friendly people behind the counter offered me one!!! I think I found my new favorite spot. Excited to try the baked bread made on sight and I love the idea of supporting a coffee roasting company that
is staffed by folks with disabilities.
